The Korgis love Yorkies!

Black Dyke Mills, Brighouse Road, BD13 1QA Queensbury, Bradford

This is part of our 40 years of The Korgis tour, and the audience reaction has been overwhelming! With a brilliant 8-piece band and a full multi-media show, and songs that span not just The Korgis but of course some Stackridge favourites and much much more! We are also having a Brunch get together the next day if anyone would care to join us. Venue to be arranged but somewhere in the Bradford area.

Way back in the 1960’s when love was all around and The Beatles were fab, a young James Warren took up the guitar. His ‘silent admiration for the boys in the Beatle boots’ soon gave way to a band called Stackridge. The music was heady, wayward and like nothing else. A dream came true when their 3rd album ‘The Man In The Bowler Hat’ was produced by none other than George Martin – his first production after the Fab Four. Out of the smash hits of The Korgis through to the eclectic solo albums of James Warren, always with a strangely compelling mix of psychedelia, love songs and some other odd things(!) emerged the idea for a new show. An amazing journey would need an amazing band! – WE HAVE ONE! James Warren - Vocals/Acoustic guitar/bass, Al Steele - Guitar/Vocals/Keyboards/Bass/Percussion, Richard Mainwaring - Violin/French Horn/Vocals/Trumpet/Bass/Percussion Pete Wilson-Keyboards/Clarinet/Sax/Vocals/Percussion. As if that is not enough(!) we will be augmented by a fabulous 5-piece string section! SO!.. get your loons out, dust off your paisley shirt, and come take a trip that begins in the 60’s and ends up… well, wherever we end up, we hope to find you at the other end!

The 40th Anniversary show is going to be a wonderful thing to behold, with LOT'S of Korgis classics, some Stackridge evergreens, and some truly psychedelic new material. MISS IT AT YOUR PERIL!

Roosevelt

Cwmmer Club, Porth, Porth

Fresh from our recent stint of recording, Roosevelt are fired up with new songs and enthusiasm! Come and see why Burke Shelley once described us as Cardiff's best kept secret! Free entry!

The Korgis burst onto the scene from the remnants of Stackridge in 1979 with the hit song ‘If I Had You’. This was followed in 1980 by the worldwide classic ‘Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime’. There have been over 150 versions, including dance mixes, and even a version by Beck that appeared in the multi award-winning film, ‘The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. The hits and favourites carry on with ‘Dumb Waiters,’ ‘If It’s Alright With You Baby’, ‘All the Love in the World and many more. Returning back to where it all started in Bath all those years ago, The Korgis are celebrating 40 years of quirky hits, catchy melodies and hi-jinx!

They are led by original singer James Warren, and include vocalist John Baker and guitarist Al Steele from the 1990’s Korgis touring band. Keyboard ace Glenn Nigel Hart and powerhouse drummer Paul Smith make up the rhythm section and ‘Born To Win’ provide brilliant backing vocals and bring a vibrant energy to each performance.

James and the band have worked hard at creating a show that is both musically and visually exciting.

Going back to the earliest Stackridge material, through all the Korgis hits and favourites plus excellent new songs, the 2019 show has elicited comments such as ‘flawless musicianship’ and ‘breath-taking musicality’.

Come along and witness The Korgis at their finest, with an outstanding 8-piece band, and a Poptastic show not to be missed!

Due to our illustrious leader having a nasty back disorder, The Korgis are very sorry to have to postpone the next two gigs in Kinross and Black Dyke Mills. James has a host of people pampering him and plying him with drugs (well he IS a rock god!), so we are expecting him to be fit and well by the 22nd for The Wharf in Tavistock. We will announce the new dates ASAP, and would love to see you all on the new dates.

With a brand new show, we are really looking forward to playing this historic venue in the heart of Yorkshire. Our aim is to warm up a winter night. We shall be turning the heat on full!!

When I began writing the songs that would be the 'Coming Up From Down Under' album, I knew I was at a turning point in my writing, my orchestration, and also my personal life. I had already written some 200 songs, countless TV themes, and spent vast amounts of time practising my craft, on guitar, bass guitar and keyboards. It was the realisation that most music had become formulaic, including my own. When I thought of Sergeant Pepper, the instrumentation was brave, the experimentation was intense, the songwriting was clever and diverse. From that point on, I decided to change my approach. I wasn't going to make another SP, but I WAS going to take more risks. I WAS going to vary the instrumentation. I WAS going to have a 6 minute song if it felt right. Lyrically 'Driving' was my own frustration with simply existing, without thinking, and 'From Now On', was a vow to change it. I have stuck to that ideal, and have no wish to go back... and this album was where it started for me. Huge thanks to my many supporters over the years, who are now shouting 'It's about time!!' Many thanks to the musicians who played for me - often just for the love of it. Thanks to my songwriting partners over the years, Julian Tucker, Lynn Ritchie, Nigel Voyle, and my business partner and mate Nigel Hart. The biggest thanks to Ceri Darknell, who puts up with my always unreasonable demands, and makes me want to be a better person!
